Flow Into Future Focus: Anchor Equinox energy for Renewal and Growth

Writer: Clare BelmontClare Belmont

Spring Equinox marks a powerful turning point in nature’s cycle—a moment of balance, renewal, and transformation. Through the ages, cultures worldwide have recognized this time as an opportunity for fresh starts, setting intentions, and aligning with the natural rhythms of the Earth. But beyond its spiritual and cultural historic significance, the Spring Equinox also has a profound impact on our bodies, minds, and energy levels - right now.

As we transition out of winter’s introspective energy, we have a unique opportunity to clear stagnation, set new priorities, and accelerate forward momentum.

The Science Behind the Equinox

The Spring Equinox occurs when day and night are of nearly equal length, signalling the official start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. This balance of light and dark impacts us on multiple levels:

🌞 Increased Sunlight & Mood Boost – Longer days mean more exposure to natural sunlight, which boosts serotonin levels, improving mood and energy.

💤 Sleep Regulation & Circadian Rhythm – As daylight increases, our body’s production of melatonin (the sleep hormone) naturally shifts, helping us feel more awake and motivated.

🌿 Detoxification & Renewal – Just as nature begins to bloom, our bodies respond to the shift in seasons. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), spring is associated with the Liver, the organ responsible for detoxification, decision-making, and energy flow.

This makes a perfect time to cleanse—physically, emotionally, and mentally—allowing new energy and ideas to take root.

The Liver & Spring: Ancient Wisdom

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Liver governs detoxification, the harmonious interaction of qi, blood, digestion, and emotions. When the Liver energy is balanced, we feel clear-headed, focused, and motivated. When stagnant, and not in flow, we may experience:

  • Fatigue & brain fog

  • Irritability, anger & frustration, resistance

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Tight muscles & tension

How to Support Your Liver

Eat seasonal foods – Leafy greens (like dandelion, kale, and arugula) support liver detoxification.

Hydrate & cleanse – Drinking warm lemon water in the morning helps flush toxins. Hydrate really well with water through the day. Then, hydrate more.

Move your body – Stretching, yoga, or walking outdoors helps prevent stagnation. Every day.

Breathe & release – Breathwork and emotional processing help clear stored tension.

By working with your body’s natural rhythm, you align yourself with spring’s energy of renewal, and forward motion.

Cultural Celebrations: The World Welcomes Equinox

Throughout history, civilisations have honoured the Equinox as a sacred time of balance, rebirth, and new beginnings:

🌞 Persian New Year (Nowruz) – Celebrated for over 3,000 years, Nowruz marks the Persian New Year and the start of spring. It’s a time of cleansing, feasting, and setting fresh intentions.

🌞Celtic & Pagan Traditions (Ostara) – In ancient Europe, the Equinox was celebrated as Ostara, honouring fertility, planting, and new life. Eggs, hares, and flowers—symbols of renewal—originated from these traditions.

🌞Ancient Egyptians positioned the Sphinx, Pyramids and several temples to align with the setting sun at equinox. Celebrations are still observed there to this day.

🌞Japanese Shunbun no Hi – A national holiday that focuses on balance and renewal, honouring nature and reconnecting with ancestors.

🌞Mayan & Aztec  – Ancient civilizations built temples that align perfectly with the Equinox. At Chichén Itzá in Mexico, the shadow of a serpent appears on the pyramid of Kukulcán, symbolizing rebirth and transformation.

There is a universal recognition of this powerful time for change.

Using Equinox to Find Focus & Move Forward

Spring is the perfect time to refresh your mindset, clear mental clutter, and create momentum toward your goals. Here are some ways to tap into this seasonal shift:

Set New Intentions – Write down your priorities for the next three months and visualize their success.

Spring Clean Your Mind & Space – Declutter both your environment and thoughts, removing anything that no longer serves you.

Energy Clearing Practices – Try breathwork, meditation, or journaling to shift stagnant emotions and gain clarity.
