Prioritise What Matters: From Procrastination to Purpose

Updated: Apr 16

We all know the feeling. A long to-do list. Messages pinging. People asking for your time.

And somewhere in the midst of all that noise, your own priorities begin to blur.

In a world full of distraction and urgency, how do we cut through the noise and realign with what actually matters?

The Truth About Procrastination

Procrastination is rarely just laziness. More often, it’s a symptom of deeper indecision, lack of clarity, or a nervous system in overwhelm. When our inner compass is clouded, even the simplest task can feel heavy.

Self development and self awareness are a long term game, it's an ebb and flow, and we are human. That means we are not perfect, nor are we meant to be.

But here’s the good news: clarity creates flow. And prioritising doesn’t have to be hard—it can be intuitive, energising, and even fun.

Start With Self-Enquiry

All this stuff comes from within YOU. Your time, your energy, your choices.

To refine your priorities, you first need to ask yourself the right questions:

  • What am I truly saying yes to today?

  • What’s driving my choices—pressure, guilt, or genuine alignment?

  • How do I feel when I think about this task or goal?

When we tune in and get honest, we stop wasting energy on things that aren't aligned.

Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Clarity

Across ancient traditions, intention has always mattered more than busy-ness:

-In Buddhist practice, the principle of Right Effort teaches us to focus on what supports clarity and well-being—not just achievement.

-In Indigenous teachings, decision-making often happens in community or through deep listening with nature—grounding the process in presence and purpose.

-Even the Stoics believed in distinguishing between what is within our control and what is not. Prioritising becomes easier when you stop trying to control everything.

Practical Steps to Prioritise What Feels Alive

  • Pick 3–5 Focus Points – Choose the things that feel "fizzy"—a little edgy, a little exciting. Trust your energy.

  • Break Them Down – Create micro-steps that are so small you can’t not do them. Clarity + momentum = progress.

  • Schedule It – If it’s not in your calendar, it’s just a wish. Block time for your most important steps. Honour that time.

  • Measure Your Yes – Ask yourself: Is this moving me closer to my bigger vision?

  • Build Accountability – Share your goals, journal your progress, or use gentle structure to keep on track.

Redefine Urgency, Reclaim Your Energy

Not everything that feels urgent is important. Learning to separate the two is one of the most empowering habits you can cultivate.

When you refine your priorities, you reclaim your power.

These are big buzzwords but also a simple truth. By repeating the old people pleasing ways, and over committing - we give away our energy, chi, prana, life force.

When you reclaim it - you begin to act from clarity instead of reaction. You begin to lead your life instead of chasing it, and respond with discernment rather than impulse reaction.

So ask yourself today:

What are you really saying yes to?

And what could shift if your priorities were fully aligned with your purpose?

Message me one thing you’re saying YES to this week. I’d love to witness your intention.
